We have had recent emails asking for guidelines on how to hold cheer/dance tryouts for the upcoming season.  We strongly advise that the guidelines from Governor DeWine, Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and Ohio Department of Education (ODE) are followed when deciding when and how to hold cheer/dance tryouts. Coaches are to partner with their Superintendent, Principal and AD to decide on the best option for your school.  When making this decision, please keep in mind the health and safety of everyone involved is the number one priority.  Listed below are a few options: We strongly recommend, as well as ODE, “virtual” is the safest approach.  If you choose to hold virtual tryouts, OASSA will offer an article from Bricker and Eckler, our legal counsel that can be used as guidance when planning tryouts. If you have another idea in mind on how to hold tryouts, you may do so as long it is approved by your Principal/AD and Superintendent and it follows the current guidelines from DeWine, ODH and ODE. Due to the unique circumstances our country is facing, many state athletic administrator association conferences have been cancelled. In response, the NIAAA has decided to institute a series of afternoon webinars to provide courses to our members that may be affected by these cancellations. These webinar sessions will take place from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. or 7 a.m. – 11 a.m. beginning March 25. Please note that the NIAAA reserves the right to cancel or delay these course offerings at any time in correspondence with the regulations surrounding COVID-19.

Each webinar will last four consecutive hours and participants must be present for the entirety of the session to receive credit. Refunds and/or credit will not be given to participants that miss more than fifteen minutes of the session.

The cost per webinar is $125 for NIAAA members and $210 for non-members. Please note that our office is closed and we are only able to accept payment via credit card.

Registration and payment deadline for all classes is due a minimum of 3 business days before the first session. All unpaid registrations will not be sent information on how to join the course. Course manual and login instructions will be sent to you through our system automatically after the payment payment is processed.

Certificates:

Students must participate in both sessions (according to the webinar policies) to receive credit. If you must miss one of the two sessions, you will be required to view the recording of the missed session. If you miss both sessions, the option for make-up will not be given. Upon completing both sessions, you will receive an email with a link to the course evaluation. An acknowledgment of course completion will be made available in the Professional Development section of the member portal once both sessions are complete.

CLEVELAND – Positive Coaching Alliance-Cleveland and the Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (OIAAA) are pleased to announce a new partnership effective September 9.  This strategic partnership has been developed to provide additional support to OIAAA members specifically as it relates to enhancing culture development and elevating the social-emotional learning opportunities that co-curricular athletics presents. 

PCA-Cleveland is one of 18 chapters of the Positive Coaching Alliance, a national nonprofit organization that provides live in-person and online tools, resources and training for athletics leaders, coaches, parents and athletes that directly align with each individual schools’ mission.  As a leading professional development nonprofit association for high school administrators, the OIAAA is comprised primarily of athletic administrators of secondary schools in the state of Ohio. It was formed for the purpose of supporting and improving Interscholastic athletics and programs which enhance the development of young student-athletes, the professional inter-relationship between athletic administrators and other supervisory personnel.  The OIAAA also provides educational opportunities and channels of communication for its members.
